Frequently Asked Questions

We want you to have complete peace of mind when booking your shore excursion so we've listed the answers to all of our most frequently asked questions below. If you have a question that isn't listed you can contact us here.

  • How do i check availability?
    • Once you have selected your preferred tour just click on the 'Reserve' button and fill in the details of your group size and arrival date. Once we have received your info we will check availability and get back to you within 24 hours (usually much less).

  • Do I have to pay for my tour up front?
    • No, we ask only for a deposit to reserve your place on the tour. The amount of the deposit varies depending on the tour your choose but in most cases it is 50% of the total tour cost. If the deposit amount is not 50% the required amount will be listed in the 'Things to Consider' section of the tour page.

  • How do i pay my deposit?
    • Once we have confirmed availability on your tour date we will send you either a PayPal invoice or a link where you can pay via credit card using the 'Tab' booking system. If you have an account in US dollars we suggest paying via PayPal as you will incur lower fees (0% if you have an existing PayPal balance). If your account is not in USD we suggest paying via Tab.
    • If you are in the UK or Australia we can also accept payment via bank transfer.
    • We also accept payment via Bitcoin.

  • What happens if we cannot tender to shore due to adverse weather?
    • In the event that no tendering takes place, and customers are unable to reach the shore, we will refund 90% of any deposit paid. However, recent upgrades to the cruise port in San Juan del Sur make this situation highly unlikely.
    • If tendering is delayed for any reason, but still takes place, we will delay the tour start time for an appropriate duration. In this circumstance it is the customers responsibility to disembark as quickly as possible and no refunds will be issued for missed tours.

  • What is your cancellation policy?
    • If you cancel more than 7 days before your tour start time we will refund any deposits you have paid minus a 10% administration charge
    • If you cancel between 7 days and 48 hours before your tour start time we will refund 50% of any deposits you have paid
    • Any cancellations made within 48 hours of the tour start time are non-refundable (unless due to adverse weather - see above)

  • How will i find my tour guide/driver at the port?
    • A Nicaragua Tour Network representative will be waiting for you at the cruise port with a sign. Depending on which tour you have booked they will either be waiting at the tender dock or at the port entrance. You will receive specific details once you make your booking and again 48 hours before your tour.

  • Can i start my tour earlier/later than the listed time?
    • If you have booked a private tour the start time is entirely up to you. The times that we have listed on this website are only a suggestion based on our experience of the tendering process in San Juan and the amount of time required for each tour.
    • For group tours we can only start early if everyone has arrived. For latecomers we will usually allow up to 15 minutes before starting the tour. The only exception to this is if poor weather has delayed the tendering process for all passengers, in which case we will delay the start time appropriately.

  • Do i need local currency?
    • No, all of our tours are priced in US$ and any outstanding balances should be paid in US$ on the morning of your tour. US$ are also widely accepted throughout Nicaragua so you will be able to use them when shopping for souvenirs, buying lunch or tipping your tour guide.

  • What is the difference between a group tour and a private tour?
    • Group tours are a great way to meet new people and see Nicaragua without paying over the odds. Whilst on your tour you will be accompanied by other cruise passengers but, unlike the ship tours, we keep our groups small so that everyone gets personal attention from the guide and the locations we visit aren't too overcrowded. At present we have three group tours available - Sightseeing in SJDS, Ziplining in SJDS and Granada & Masaya.
    • Private tours are ideal for larger groups or for anyone who wants their own personal tour guide. If you have a large enough group private tours can also be a cheaper option. On each of our private tour listings the price is listed as 'From $x per person', this is the price for a group of 12.
